About us

The City of Plymouth Model Boat Club was formed in 1977 to bring together people interested in model boating. The club now has 40+ members, and we cater for all aspects of model boating excluding I.C and fast electric.  We are a friendly club, and the emphasis is always to enjoy our hobby!

We have regular competitions including yacht racing (Fairwind and Weenip classes), straight running (boat darts!!) and occasional steering competitions.

Free Sail Days mean that you can bring any boat except I.C. or fast electric, and typically you will find scale fishing boats, warships, yachts, hovercraft and the odd submarine lurking beneath the surface!

The club has the use of the pond located at the Civic Centre in Plymouth City Centre. The pond has excellent all round access, use of local amenities and a coffee shop adjacent to the pond.

We also have use of a large brackish lake at Millbrook, Nr. Torpoint, which is particularly good for sailing deeper keeled yachts.

Members can sail on Sundays all year and Wednesday Evenings in the summer. Visitors are always welcome, whether you wish to sail your boat or just sit and watch the boats and enjoy a coffee by the pondside. If you do wish to pay us a visit , please check the calendar online or contact a committee member before you travel, as the club regularly supports various other clubs and events during the summer.

New members are always made welcome!
